I waited all of April for good showers but I missed the one chance I had. We only had one April shower all month but the April blooms were some of the prettiest I recall. The flowering trees have been stunning, lasting as long as one could hope. There were plenty of windy days, even so the blooms lasted. Now it is May and we haven't had the moisture we need so many of us have started the watering process. Maybe today we will get the predicted rains sent by God.
We saw the first corn up in a field between Ames and Ankeny yesterday. Most farmers have gotten a portion of their planting done and are waiting on the rain to do the rest.
"You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty and your carts overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing." (Psalm 65:9-13 NIV).
Lord God, we ask for Your grace upon us this day. May You send showers upon the earth to moisten the newly planted seeds and flowers. May You bring Your rain gently upon the ground, to provide sustenance. We thank you for this blessing, in Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
