Our Father's World

We celebrated Father's Day with both of our sons - at a sheep show, of course. Two of our grandchildren showed lambs and four others were there to watch. It was a special day for my husband.

It was also a day of remembering our fathers who are no longer with us. We both lost our fathers many years ago so we cherish the memories we have of them. They were wonderful men.

It was also a day to praise our Heavenly Father for all He has given us and done for us. I was immediately reminded of the old hymn that we sang often when I was young, "This is my Father's World", written by Maltbie D. Babcock, 1901, and Franklin L. Sheppard, 1915.

"This is my Father's world, And to my listening ears All nature sings, and round me rings The music of the spheres. This is my Father's world: I rest me in the thought Of rocks and trees, of skies and seas-His hand the wonders wrought. This is my Father's world, The birds their carols raise, The morning light, the lily white, Declare their Maker's praise. This is my Father's world: He shines in all that's fair; In the rustling grass I hear Him pass, He speaks to me everywhere. This is my Father's world, O let me ne'er forget That though the wrong seems oft so strong, God is the Ruler yet. This is my Father's world: Why should my heart be sad? The Lord is King: let the heavens ring! God reigns: let earth be glad! Amen."

"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." (Hebrews 12:5b-6 NIV).

Thank You, Father God, for all You have created, especially our earthly fathers. Thank You for being the example for all fathers (and mothers and children, too). We are blessed by Your loving kindness and Your discipline. Forever guide us in this life and lead us to our heavenly home with You. Amen.
